Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Steve Southerland, II released the following statement this evening following House passage of H.R. 10, the REINS Act. Southerland cosponsored the legislation requiring congressional approval of any executive branch regulations with an economic impact of $100 million or more:

“The Obama administration appears determined to turn America into ‘Regulation Nation.’ Over the past year alone, new regulations have increased costs on our job creators by $67.4 billion, nearly equaling the size of the budget for the entire state of Florida. For too long, Congress has abdicated its responsibility to check the powers of the executive branch, allowing Republican and Democrat administrations alike to impose new regulations without regard for the economic impact on Main Street America. For this reason, I am pleased today that the House overwhelmingly approved the REINS Act, legislation I cosponsored requiring congressional approval for every new regulation that has a significant impact on America’s small businesses and hardworking families.”
