WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Steve Southerland, II released the following statement today following approval of a compromise between the House and Senate ensuring payroll tax relief for the next two months as negotiations continue on a sorely needed one-year extension in 2012:
“While I am disappointed that the Senate refused to return to Washington before the new year to negotiate with the House, I am pleased that there is an agreement in place to continue tax relief beyond 2011. I look forward to returning to Washington after the holidays and working as hard as it takes to keep this vital payroll tax relief in place over the long-term. As I have said all along, I believe that our job creators will only be able to hire new employees and expand their operations once we have certainty beyond the next 60 days.”
