WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Steve Southerland, II released the following statement today regarding his vote against H.R. 2055, the Consolidated Appropriations Act:

“When the people of North and Northwest Florida entrusted me to represent them in Congress, they did so with an expectation that I would fight to restore fiscal accountability in Washington. With each vote I cast, I strive to hold true to this mission until our $15 trillion debt burden is eliminated for good. For this reason, I voted today against a 1200-page ‘megabus’ appropriations bill that exceeds the $1.019 trillion spending benchmark set by the House Republican budget plan. If you want to get out of a hole, you’ve got to stop digging. Fixing this fiscal mess is going to take game-changing spending cuts, a balanced budget, and common sense regulatory policies that create an environment for job creation and economic growth.”
