WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, II today applauded the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for unanimously approving an October 1st to October 21st red snapper season for state waters. The decision to open a fall season was based upon a recent stock assessment that reflected a growing and abundant red snapper fishery.
“I applaud FWC for opening a fall season in state waters,” said Southerland. “This decision is right for our fishermen, it’s good for our coastal economies, and it’s based on undeniable science showing a growing and healthy red snapper fishery. I am hopeful that the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will respond in a similarly responsible fashion and open a fall season in federal waters, as well.”
